Heroes 1980
We all need Heroes. The Heroes im talking about happen to be Aussie rockers. The band Heroes started in 1977 after the break up of the legendary Australian rock band Rabbit who featured the mighty Dave Evans late of ACDC fame. Ex-Rabbit men Jim Porteus , Phil Screen, and Mark Tinson and hot shot lead vocalist Peter De Jong provide the lineup for this ace outfit out of Newcastle. Heroes was released in 1980 under the Alberts/Emi label reaching number one in the national charts. This record is for fans of rowdy pub rock, the sort you would expect to hear from Quireboys, The Angels, etc. Yet, as rowdy as it does get, the record also trails off into Power Pop territory; perhaps a reflection of Dave Evans decision to part ways with long time band mates Jim, Phil, and Mark, as I could not imagine Dave Evans singing many of these songs. It is a great record, half straight up Aussie Rock, half big production Power Pop. If you are a fan both Genres this is a must. Let curiosity get a hold of you!
